Who We Are

Mission: To end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims and prevent underage drinking.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to ending drunk driving, combating drugged driving, preventing underage drinking, and supporting victims of these violent crimes. Founded in 1980 by a mother who lost her daughter to a drunk driver, MADD has since saved nearly 380,000 lives, reduced drunk driving deaths by over 50%, and provided vital support services to nearly one million victims. Through its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving®, MADD advocates for stronger laws, innovative vehicle technologies, and community-driven prevention measures to create safer roads for everyone.

What We Do

MADD works tirelessly to end drunk and drugged driving while providing comprehensive support to victims and their families. Our efforts include:

  • Partnering with law enforcement to promote high-visibility campaigns and enforcement strategies.
  • Advocating for the use of ignition interlocks for all DUI offenders and supporting advanced vehicle technology to prevent impaired driving.
  • Conducting community outreach, educational programs, and public awareness campaigns to prevent underage drinking and reduce impaired driving incidents.
  • Offering emotional support and assistance to victims, helping them navigate medical, legal, and personal challenges after a crash.
  • Collaborating with lawmakers to strengthen DUI laws and close existing loopholes to protect lives.

MADD remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate impaired driving, ensure justice for victims, and create a culture of accountability and safety on our roads.
