Who We Are

Mission: To address the state’s most pressing issues and empowers volunteers to strengthen communities.

The Michigan Community Service Commission utilizes service as a strategy to address the state’s most pressing issues and empowers volunteers to strengthen communities. The MCSC uses Michigan’s AmeriCorps, Mentor Michigan, Volunteer Michigan, and the Governor’s Service Awards to achieve just that.

What We Do

Key activities and programs include:

  1. AmeriCorps Programs: MCSC administers AmeriCorps in Michigan, providing grants to nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies to support community service projects. These programs focus on education, health, environmental protection, disaster preparedness, and more.
  2. Volunteerism Promotion: The commission works to inspire volunteerism by connecting individuals and groups with opportunities to serve in their communities. This includes organizing service days, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and coordinating disaster response efforts.
  3. Youth and Family Engagement: MCSC offers programs that encourage young people and families to get involved in service, developing leadership skills and fostering civic engagement. These programs include youth service grants and leadership initiatives.
  4. Training and Technical Assistance: MCSC provides training, resources, and support to organizations and volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of service initiatives. This helps local nonprofits and community groups maximize their impact.
