Who We Are

Mission: To increase college and career readiness, participation, and completion.

The Capital Area College Access Network (CapCAN) is a community collaborative focused on making completion of postsecondary education an achievable reality for all residents by fostering high educational aspirations through the alignment of our institutions and resources.  Our geographic area includes Ingham and Eaton counties.

Our network includes representatives from education, higher education, business, nonprofit, philanthropy, and government stakeholders.  CapCAN targets our support and services to low-income, communities of color, and first-generation students.  Help us create a college- going culture!

What We Do

CapCAN inspires, encourages, informs, and supports students and adults to explore, understand, and launch their dream that a post- secondary education is possible in our community.

CapCAN operates four community services to help students and adults navigate the post-secondary process.

  • College advising embedded at 13 local high schools to support application, FAFSA, and scholarship completion for degree and credential programs.  (Seeking AmeriCorps Community Service Members annually)
  • College and career coaching for adults to reenage with education or employment opportunities.
  • College Positive Mentor (CPM) training provides mentors and volunteers who work with young people with the training, tools and knowledge that will enable them to become ambassadors of higher education to the K-12 youth and adult learners they serve.
  • The #LaunchPAD (Postsecondary Access and Development) brings college and career access to meet people where they are at in collaboration with regional community partners. (Volunteer to host a Pop-Up event!) Services Offered at the LaunchPAD:
    • One on One College and career exploration, planning and coaching
    • Assistance with applications, scholarships, FAFSA and decision-making processes
    • Career Assessments aligned with postsecondary goals
    • Workshops on a wide array of college and career knowledge topics
