South Michigan Food Bank is a nonprofit who's mission is to enrich lives in our community by eliminating food insecurity. We are 1 of 7 Food Banks across the state of Michigan, and 1 of 200 in the United States. Our role is to acquire and rescue as much food as possible, developing a process to distribute throughout our 8-county service area.
What We Do
At South Michigan Food Bank, we safely store millions of pounds of food, donated from retailers, grocery stores, farmers, manufacturers, and restaurants, as well as food that we purchase and food drives by corporate partners and organizations. With all this variety, we offer a diverse selection of healthy and nutritious options for individuals and families in need of food assistance through our Fresh Food and Pantry Staple Distributions, Fresh Food Pharmacy, Backpack Program, Emergency boxes, traditional pantries, and soup kitchens. Through these programs and partnerships, we provide over 11 million pounds of food in Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lenawee, and St. Joseph counties.
