Volunteer: PM Office VolunteerOffice volunteers serve a unique role as a liaison among staff, clients, and other volunteers. This provides one of our most interactive volunteer opportunities. The primary tasks include: Answering phones and transferring calls to correct staff member. When a person calls requesting shelter, it is important to obtain enough information to determine if the person really needs shelter and is suitable for our shelter, to do this we use our phone screening. You might collect in-kind donations from a donor during their scheduled appointment time and provide their receipt. You might help other volunteers or clients have access to the supplies they need. There are many opportunities to take on additional or alternate responsibilities in the office volunteer role.*this role requires at least a (2) hour training after orientation. Volunteer: Inventory trackingHaven House stores many donations for our shelter and families. So, keeping an accurate count of what is available allows our programs to run smoothly and clients have what they need. To do this, we use an electronic tracking system called inFlow and all donations coming into the shelter or going out to clients must be accounted for. With the constant movement of donations the inventory counts can become inaccurate so regular tracking of inventory in all areas is necessary. Volunteers interested in this position will commit to at least 2-4 hours M-F checking inventory on a weekly rotation for preventative measures as well as when inventory is found to have discrepancies. This is an independent role meaning volunteers will train with staff beforehand but when training is complete, they will come and go as scheduled with minimal supervision.
