You will play a crucial role in assisting our office with transferring hard copy documents into our database through scanning. Your assistance is greatly beneficial to our organization.

The hours are flexible between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The Leisure Services Advisory Board is seeking volunteers to work concession stands at Gier Park, Ben Davis Park, Gier and Schmidt Centers. These stands serve Lansing Parks and Recreation's youth and adult sports programs and raise funds to support the community centers. A small stipend is paid to volunteers to help cover the cost of gas. 

Assist with care of youth in grades K-6 at one of our three community centers: Foster, Gier or Schmidt. Assistance can be tutoring, leading crafts or games with youth. 

Looking for a facilitator for the Girls Who Code curriculum. Facilitators need to be passionate about empowering girls and providing a safe space for them to learn. Facilitators do not need to be experts in coding, the curriculum will guide the instruction, review of the material before each class will prepare you for the lesson. The schedule can be set by the facilitator, looking at either after school or Saturdays to offer this program.  

College Positive Volunteerism (CPV) provides college students and other volunteers who work with young people with the training, tools and knowledge that will enable them to become ambassadors of higher education to the K-12 youth and adult learners they serve. CPVs acting as tutors, mentors, and active community members can have a profound impact on how young people view the possibility of going to college.

CapCAN utilizes CPV with faith communities, nonprofit organizations, athletic organizations, and businesses to train adults who work with students to ensure that anyone who talks with a child is on the same page about the messages, information, and tools they give to help the student understand that post-secondary education is for them.

The Wexford Montessori Academy Support Program is seeking volunteers to provide remedial skills support in core academic subjects to students in kindergarten through 5th grade, in collaboration with classroom teachers. Volunteers will act as tutors in math, reading, and other academic subjects during school hours.

As a volunteer, you can choose the grade level and day/ time you are available, visits will be supervised by classroom teachers who will provide the materials for remediation or enrichment sessions with the student.

If you have an hour a week, you can make a difference to a grateful student by volunteering to be an academic tutor at Wexford Montessori Academy.

As a volunteer, the Lansing School District Public Safety office will conduct a background check.

Lansing Parks and Recreation has inherited a ton of supplies to create a lego robotics team and now all we need is a Coach to lead. We are looking for someone passionate about robotics that can help us start a program for youth in the area.

Volunteers with sewing skills at all levels are needed to help Michigan Mask Up!

Volunteers are needed throughout the state of Michigan to lend their sewing skills to sew masks for children and adults.  As the pandemic continues,  the need is still incredibly great in communities across the state. 

The Michigan Community Service Commission, the state’s lead agency on volunteerism, has thousands of ready to sew kits.  Our hope is to engage individuals with the ability to do simple sewing and provide them with bundles of masks to go to organizations in their own communities. These organizations include those supporting children in foster care or group homes, nursing homes, daycares, head start programs and any other organizations supporting adults or children.  We will help you get connected to an organization(s) to accept the masks if you do not have one in mind already.

Masks will be mailed to your home in bundles of 100 or more.  The masks take beginner to average skill to sew and after getting the hang of it, each mask takes about five minutes to complete.  The thread is not included and the cost for the thread ranges from about $1 to $3 depending on your preference and colors are medium grey or navy blue.

Throughout the year we are in need of qualified individuals to pick up bread and other food donations on either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings. These donations go to those in need at our fresh produce and food pantry programs.

A Salvation Army panel truck would need to be driven so a chauffeur license is required. All training provided.

This is definitely a background job that is necessary for human needs to be met, and an integral part of our operations.

We are seeking an individual interested in exercise programs to assist with the coordination of our annual Hawk Island Triathlon.  Volunteer hours are flexible.  Duties include assisting with promotions, marketing, social media, donation requests, equipment preparation, etc.  Much of the work will be planning details in the office prior to the day of the event. 

This opportunity would be weekly schedule in the office, can be flexible with day hours and if desired evening hours to volunteer.  We expect the position to be approximately 10 - 15 hours per week commitment until the day after the events (June 3, 2019). Would want this volunteer to be available for the two day event, June 1 & June 2, 2019.

South Lansing Urban Gardens is a program of South Lansing Community Development Association.  Our gardens are an educational tool and a donation based growing opportunity for South Lansing.  The produce we grow is donated to local non-profit food pantries, community kitchens, and individuals in South Lansing.

A variety of duties are required for a successful growing season.  We are searching for individuals who want to assist with seed starting in our greenhouse, seedling transplants in our hoop, greenhouse, and outside garden space.  We want people who want to help maintain the soil in the garden with composting, weeding, and watering schedules.  Harvesting and distribution will be a weekly opportunity. Developing new growing areas to incorporate native plants and pollinators in our garden(s).  We hope to expand our gardening efforts to support other community gardens in our area.

You do not have to be an experienced gardener, just a love of the outdoors and a willingness to take directions.
